What Causes Temporary Hearing Loss In Children?
Hearing problems do not distinguish between children and grown-ups. There are so many causes of hearing loss that vary from a simple infection to a major disease. It can lead to permanent hearing impairment. However, not all loss of hearing needs a visit to a hearing aid centre in Chennai. When it comes to kids, parents are worried the moment their child complains of pain or something funny inside his ears. Unless diagnosed otherwise, it is mostly temporary. In this blog post, let us know what causes temporary hearing loss in children.
1 – Infection of the middle ea
The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) has suggested that 5 out of every 6 kids will have a minimum of one middle ear infection by the time they are three years of age. This fact paints a clear picture of how common middle ear infections are. It can be painful and cause discomfort to your child. However, most ear infections go away on their own. To be on the safer side, you can consult your audiologist in Chennai and get proper treatment.
The prevalent infection in children is Acute Otitis Media. This condition happens when sections of the middle ear swell and trap fluid behind the eardrums. In case your child is too young to communicate this to you, here are some signs you should notice:
- Has trouble sleeping
- Loss of balance
- Pulling ears frequently
- Fluid from the ears
- Fever
These are some symptoms commonly associated with middle ear infections.
2 – Swimmer’s ears
People who take regular swimming sessions are prone to this condition. The bacteria found in the water, especially untreated water like ponds, and lakes could enter the ear canal. When the water does not completely dry out, the moist condition inside the ear canal replicates the bacteria and therefore, it causes infection. Only in extreme cases of this condition, a person will require to get a hearing aid from any one of the Siemens hearing aid dealers in Chennai. Otherwise, it is simple to treat this problem.
What should you do?
- The first step is to keep the ears dry. Remove all the logged moisture from inside the ears.
- Avoid using earbuds or anything to poke the ears.
- Consult an audiologist or a doctor at any one of the nearest hearing aid shops in Chennai for a dose of antibiotics drop.
3 – Earwax
The presence of earwax will prevent any dirt and dust particles. It has a natural waterproof property that keeps the ear canal and the eardrum safe from anything that might harm them. Our body has this tendency to automatically push any excess earwax build-up. There is no problem with using a soft cloth to clean the ears. However, avoid cotton swabs because you will end up shoving the earwax deep into the canal. It can create more blockage than freeing your child’s ears.
Three pillars of ensuring your child’s ear hygiene
- Wash the ears with a soft cloth regularly
- Avoid cotton swabs and do not insert anything inside the ears
- Get your child’s hearing health periodically evaluated
